Falafel Recipe | Traditional Recipe for Chickpea Falafel

The popular Middle East food falafel is kind of a Pattie quite crispy and delicious. It required soaked chickpeas as a main ingredient followed by sub ingredients breadcrumbs, onion, parsley, cilantro, garlic, cumin seeds, coriander powder, and red chilli powder. All the above material and traditional method of frying makes falafel delicious enough that one can’t forget its taste. Remember if you want this crispy and delicious required shallow frying so that the balance is maintained, where taste and texture are concern you can enjoy this with spicy chutney or tea or if want you can have salad.

So without wasting time we should know how to make this recipe.

Prep time: 8 Hours | Cook time: 25 minutes | Serves: 3 serving

Ingredients (Required For Falafel Recipe)

  1.  1 cup of soaked chickpeas (drained and rinsed) 
  2.  ¾ cup of finely chopped parsley 
  3.  ¾ cup of finely chopped cilantro 
  4.  3-4 tablespoons of breadcrumbs 
  5.  3 cloves of garlic 
  6.  1 chopped large onion 
  7.  1 teaspoon of cumin seeds 
  8.  2 tablespoons of coriander powder 
  9.  ½ teaspoon of red chilli powder 
  10.  ¼ teaspoons of black pepper powder 
  11.  1 teaspoon lime juice 
  12.  Salt to taste 
  13.  4 tablespoons or oil 

Process of Making Falafel Recipe

#01 Soak chickpeas overnight. Dain and rinse the water well and transfer them to colander to drain well.

#02 Now place chickpeas, garlic and onion in a jar of food processor and add coriander powder, cumin seeds, black pepper powder, red chilli powder, salt, parsley, cilantro, lime juice and breadcrumbs also.  Now process them until you get medium coarse texture. Don’t add water while blending.

#04 Transfer the mixture to a large bowl. If you want you can adjust the seasoning if required by tasting it and check whether the mixture is perfect, it should not be wet.

#05 Take a small portion of the mixture and make a round ball from it, press gently between your palms to give a flatten shape. Repeat the same procedure with remaining mixture and make equal shape patties.

#06 Heat oil in a frying pan over medium flame, gently place 4-5 patties in the pan once oil is heat to give shallow fry.

#07 Cook until the bottom surface turn golden brown and flip them and cook another side until the bottom surface turn golden brown. Flip accordingly to give perfect fry.

#08 Now transfer them over to a kitchen napkin and place on a plate. See whether the oil is sufficient enough to give shallow fry to remaining patties.

#09 Once you over with shallow frying the patties serve with chutney or sauce and enjoy.
